Family Grants

Financial aid for Michigan families.

DSL Michigan offers $1,000, $3,500, and $5,000 grants to families raising a child with Down syndrome. Funds go directly toward therapy, medical needs, adaptive equipment, and everyday support.

How it works

Three grant amounts

Choose the level that best matches your need. Awards are based on need, available funds, and the strength of the application.

$1,000

Starter Grant

Help with immediate everyday needs — diapers, formula, co-pays, or a piece of adaptive equipment.

  • Medical co-pays & prescriptions
  • Specialty formula or feeding supplies
  • Adaptive clothing or basic equipment
  • Travel to a specialist appointment

$3,500

Family Support Grant

Cover a meaningful season of therapy, childcare, or larger equipment that insurance won't.

  • Speech, OT, PT, or feeding therapy not covered by insurance
  • Specialized childcare or respite care
  • AAC device, glasses, or orthotics
  • Rent / utility relief during medical hardship

$5,000

Major Needs Grant

Significant medical, equipment, or housing modifications for families facing a heavy season.

  • Surgery-related travel & lodging
  • Major adaptive equipment or mobility devices
  • Home accessibility modifications
  • Extended therapy program or intensive

How it works

    Apply online

    Complete the application below. Share your story — we read every word.

  2. 2

    Review (within 2-3 weeks)

    Our grants committee reviews each application for need and available funds. We may follow up with a brief phone call.

    Award decision

    We'll email you with a decision. Approved grants are paid by check or directly to the provider (therapist, vendor, etc.).

    Walk together

    Beyond the grant, you're part of the DSL Michigan family. We're here for prayer, peer support, and connection.

Eligibility: Open to Michigan families raising a child with Down syndrome (prenatal through age 25). One grant per family per 12-month period. Funds may not be used for non-essential items.
